The first of a long line of Cream anthologies, the 1969 Best of Cream was a ten-track compilation featuring nearly all but two of Cream's U.K. and U.S. single hits.
Cream were the first of the 'supergroups', with all three members considered to be the 'cream' of the vibrant '60's London underground jazz and blues scene. However, despite their obvious musical virtuosity, their albums tended to be patchy, consisting of a blend of blues covers and originals, and, somewhat surprisingly for one of the first rock bands, their forte proved to be singles.
So this collection is an excellent representation of the band's best moments. It includes the two singles I Feel Free and Badge, Spoonful from their debut album Fresh Cream, four tracks from Disraeli Gears, and three from Wheels of Fire.
