Electronic dance producer DJ Rashad died tragically in 2014, aged 34, just one year after the release of his debut album Double Cup.
He was a pioneer in the small but influential dance sub-genre known as 'footwork', which emerged as an outgrowth of Chicago house music and became integrated into the 2010's 'bass music' genre pioneered by labels such as UKs Hyperdub.
The principle formula is one that combines bubbling 808s and extreme sub-bass with angular snare patterns and looped snatches of vocal samples.
Double Cup presents footwork based on deep, soulful sensuousness and hip hop wooze, making the album, arguably, the finest, most engaging example of footwork and an enduring underground dance music classic.
