Opener “Sunken Waltz” is a classic Calexico song, that has become one of the band’s most iconic fan favorites for a reason: every second of it feels like craftsman-level quality, to the point where it doesn’t even seem like it’s under two-and-a-half minutes long, and many of these songs feel as though Calexico were sucked into their own grooves while making them.

Calexico is such a beloved live act because of their willingness to improvise, to elongate, to divert into new and interesting alleyways. That spirit is all over Feast Of Wire's multi-genre song-smithing — songs like “Crumble” and “Quattro (World Drifts In)” are dense with myriad sonic layers that feel like they beckon you inwards, as Joey Burns’ voice comes close to trying to hypnotize you.
