A gorgeously recorded and performed suite of artful compositions featuring David Long alongside the cream of Wellington's finest musicians, this textural exploration of sonic environments and poetic ruminations will delight the ear as much as the heart.
David is one of New Zealand’s most versatile and adventurous musicians, composers, and producers. In the 1980s, he was a member of the influential art-music ensemble Six Volts, and in the 1990s, he was a founding member of the seminal rock band The Mutton Birds.
On returning to New Zealand, he worked on Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings with Plan 9 Music and has since scored many works for film, TV, theatre, and dance. He has recorded several solo albums, collaborated with The Metabolists and The Labcoats, and produced critically acclaimed albums for Dave Dobbyn, Barry Saunders, and Leila Adu.
He won Producer of the Year in 2002 for Fur Patrol’s Pet. In 2020, he won Best Score at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards for his work on the BBC drama series “The Luminaries”. In 2022, he released Ash and Bone on Rattle, a gorgeous suite that defies easy categorisation. David describes it as “a constellation of musical styles that never quite rests in any of them.”
The same is true of David’s new album, a work as creatively rich and sonically expressive as we have come to expect from this unique, inventive composer.
